Quartmetratges 2026 opens its calls for short films and screenplays
The Quartmetratges Festival has officially opened entries for its 2026 edition, keeping two of its best-known competitions: the short film competition and the short film screenplay competition.
It is one of the longest-running festivals on the Valencian film scene, and for decades it has been a showcase for new directors, screenwriters and creators looking to get their work seen.
Short film competition
The festival accepts fiction, documentary and animated works made since 1 January 2025.
Directors born or living in the Valencia region can take part, with works of up to 30 minutes.
There are several award categories, with €1,800 for the best fiction, documentary and animated short film. There are also further awards for the best short film of the festival, the best work in Valencian, the breakthrough short and the best performance.
For many emerging projects, festivals like this are not only a possible source of funding but also a chance to add selections, gain visibility and keep building a track record on the festival circuit.
An opportunity for writers
Alongside the short film competition, Quartmetratges is once again opening its screenplay competition.
It is aimed at writers from the Valencia region with a short film project that has not yet been produced. Scripts must be submitted anonymously and can compete for two €1,100 prizes, one for the best script in Spanish and another for the best script in Valencian.
For those developing new stories or working on their next projects, initiatives like this can be a great incentive to finish a first draft, revise a text that has been waiting, or take the step of sharing an idea.
Entry dates
Entries are open from 1 to 30 June 2026.
Filmmakers and screenwriters can read the full rules and enter through the channels provided by the organisers.
A festival with a track record
At a time when more and more film initiatives are springing up in the Valencia region, it is good to see well-established festivals continuing to discover new voices and support local creativity.
If you have a finished short film or a script that has been waiting for its chance, now might be a good time to take the plunge and submit it.
