12th Sol Film Festival open call: €3,000 in prizes
The festival circuit in the province of Alicante keeps adding must-attend events in 2026. Today we turn the spotlight on the 12th Sol Film Festival, which takes place in Torrevieja from 9 to 12 July. A festival that stands out not only for its Mediterranean, international atmosphere but also for its very attractive prize money for filmmakers.
The most notable thing about its rules is their technical flexibility: the festival accepts works of up to 59 minutes in the short film category, giving films that usually fall into a «no man’s land» because of their length a real chance to compete.
Cash prizes: backing the industry
Unlike other festivals, the Sol Film Festival backs its selection with a total of €3,000 in prize money, distributed as follows:
- Best Fiction Short Film: €1,000 and trophy.
- Best Animated Short Film: €500 and trophy.
- Best Documentary Short Film: €500 and trophy.
- «UNED Torrevieja» Audience Award: €500 and trophy.
- «Sol Torrevieja» Award (Valencia region): €500 and trophy.
If you have a work produced after 1 January 2024, make a note of the deadlines:
- Entry period: 7 April to 25 May 2026.
- Platform: entries are handled exclusively through Festhome.
- Language: works must include subtitles (in English if the original language is Spanish, and in Spanish if the original is any other language).
An international showcase in the Vega Baja
Beyond the competition, the festival has become a meeting point for directors, actors and audiences, encouraging cultural exchange and putting Alicante’s film industry on the national map.
For those of you looking to give your projects from the past year an outlet, this is an exceptional window of visibility with a top-level professional jury.
