Fun West, the Wild West in the heart of Alicante

NatureEl Campello2 min read

When we think of shooting a western in Spain, our minds automatically go to Almería. But the province of Alicante hides a cinematic gem that offers astonishing visual authenticity without the need for long journeys: Fun West.

Located in the Barranc d’Aigües (El Campello), this Wild West town covers 250,000 m². Although many people know it as a theme park, for the film industry it is above all a natural set with living history.

Why is Fun West a strategic ally for your shoot?

As directors and producers, we are always looking to make the most of our resources without sacrificing the look. Fun West stands out for three key reasons:

  1. 360º visual immersion: the town is surrounded by semi-desert hills that act as a visual barrier. The result? A horizon free of cables, aerials or modern buildings. That means a direct saving in post-production, with no need to digitally remove anachronistic elements.
  2. A variety of locations in one place: it is not just a main street. The complex has a fully equipped Sheriff’s office, a period saloon, a gunsmith’s, a Native American village and even a wooden fort. It is a logistical «all in one».
  3. A set with cinematic pedigree: this is not a soulless papier-mâché set. The legendary David Carradine (Kill Bill) walked these very streets to shoot the film Bala Perdida. Filming here means joining a tradition of genre cinema that is still very much alive.

At Alicante Light Film we believe that getting to know these places is essential to showcasing our local industry.

Alicante is not just beaches; it is a desert, a fort and, if the script calls for it, the Wild West itself.
